Mounjaro Consumption in India Surges 3.4x in April

ECHEMI 2025-05-22

Eli Lilly’s GLP-1 receptor agonist, Mounjaro (tirzepatide), has experienced a significant uptick in the Indian pharmaceutical market. According to Pharmarack’s domestic market monthly sales tracker, the drug’s sales value escalated from ₹1.42 crore in March to ₹4.8 crore in April, marking a 3.4-fold increase. Similarly, the volume of units sold rose from 5,400 to 18,270 during the same period.

This surge is attributed to the adherence to Mounjaro’s once-weekly dosage regimen, indicating growing acceptance among patients managing type 2 diabetes and obesity. Launched in India on March 20, 2025, Mounjaro is priced at ₹3,500 for a 2.5 mg vial and ₹4,375 for a 5 mg vial, translating to a monthly cost between ₹14,000 and ₹17,500, depending on the prescribed dosage.

Globally, Mounjaro reported sales exceeding $11.5 billion in 2024, reflecting a 124% increase from the previous year.  As the Indian market continues to respond positively, further tracking over the coming months will provide clearer insights into the drug’s long-term acceptance and impact.
