German Continental Group’s Strategic Move for the €110B Automotive Semiconductor Market
On June 23, German Continental Group announced a significant strategic initiative to prepare its automotive business for future growth. As part of the company’s ongoing separation into a standalone entity named Aumovio, it has launched Advanced Electronics and Semiconductor Solutions (AESS) to enhance resilience and secure its place in the booming automotive semiconductor market.
AESS will focus on designing and validating semiconductors specifically tailored to the needs of modern vehicles. To support this effort, GlobalFoundries (GF) has been chosen as its manufacturing partner, bringing its expertise in high-performance and energy-efficient semiconductor manufacturing. GF’s global network, spanning the US, Europe, and Asia, positions it as a critical player in meeting the demands of high-growth sectors, including automotive and IoT.
The automotive sector is witnessing an unprecedented rise in semiconductor demand, driven by the shift toward software-defined vehicles. By 2032, the global automotive semiconductor market is expected to surpass €110 billion, highlighting the immense growth potential.
Through its collaboration with GF, AESS aims to establish a dedicated production line to manufacture semiconductors exclusively for its operations. This effort will increase the company’s autonomy, improve product quality, and accelerate time-to-market. Moreover, the initiative is expected to reduce costs, enhance efficiency, and improve cash flow through anticipated savings.
This move underscores Continental’s commitment to leveraging partnerships with industry leaders to strengthen its presence in the automotive semiconductor market, ensuring it remains a competitive and innovative force in the years ahead.
