Supply Increase Leads to Volatile Decline in 2-Ethylhexanol Prices This Week

ECHEMI 2025-08-26

August 25th, news:

This week, the price of 2-ethylhexanol in China fluctuated and declined.

According to the commodity market analysis system, as of August 25, the price of 2-ethylhexanol was 7316.67 CNY/ton, a decrease of 0.81% from the price of 7376.67 CNY/ton on August 15. This week, the price of 2-ethylhexanol has been fluctuating downward. In August, the operating rates of 2-ethylhexanol production facilities in China have recovered, with the operating rate of 2-ethylhexanol equipment increasing to 92%. Additionally, with new 2-ethylhexanol production capacity coming online, the supply of 2-ethylhexanol has increased. Downstream plasticizer manufacturers are operating stably, and their demand for 2-ethylhexanol remains steady. With the increase in supply, the price of 2-ethylhexanol has been fluctuating downward this week.

Downstream plasticizer DOP prices in China have stopped falling and rebounded

According to the commodity market analysis system, as of August 25, the DOP price was 7,759.16 CNY/ton, which first decreased and then increased compared to the DOP price of 7,759.16 CNY/ton on August 15. This week, DOP enterprises saw a slight decline, with sufficient plasticizer production, stable demand for 2-ethylhexanol, and weakened support from the increase in 2-ethylhexanol prices.

Future Market Expectations

The octanol product data analyst notes that, on the supply side, increased operational rates at isooctanol producers, combined with the commissioning of new isooctanol production capacity, have led to a rise in isooctanol supply. Looking ahead, as supply continues to grow while demand remains relatively stable, inventories in the isooctanol market are expected to build up. Consequently, the analyst anticipates that isooctanol prices will likely stabilize—albeit at weaker levels—in the near term.
