Jotun and CSSC South China Partner on Offshore & Industrial Coatings
In a high-profile tie-up, Jotun Coatings has formed a strategic partnership with CSSC Materials South China, a unit of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, to jointly expand industrial coatings business in the South China region. The two companies signed a cooperation memorandum in Guangzhou, aiming to become “full value-chain partners” in protective coatings supply for rapidly growing sectors beyond shipbuilding . The collaboration will focus on heavy-duty offshore platforms, petrochemical facilities, offshore wind energy infrastructure, and modular construction projects – all areas seeing increased investment and requiring advanced corrosion protection solutions.
Under the agreement, CSSC South China will leverage its large-scale procurement and logistics capabilities and deep local client network, while Jotun will contribute its innovative coatings products and technical service expertise . The partners plan to coordinate on improving coating application efficiency (reducing waste, extending maintenance intervals, and optimizing processes) to help customers cut lifecycle costs of industrial assets. Executives from both sides praised the “strong complementarity” of the partnership: CSSC’s vice GM Liu Haiqing said Jotun’s value-added services will bring significant benefits to the group’s enterprises, and Jotun China’s Industrial Coatings Director Zhu Haojun noted huge growth potential in new energy and high-end equipment sectors, which the two firms can tap together. This alliance comes as Jotun is experiencing robust growth in China – the company’s protective and marine coatings sales in Asia hit new highs in Q2 2025 – and underscores Jotun’s commitment to deepen its presence in China’s booming industrial coatings market.
