August 7 news

Isobutanol prices remain at a high level in China.

According to the commodity market analysis system, the price of 2-ethylhexanol on August 7 was 8066.67 CNY/ton, which first decreased and then increased from the price of 7900 CNY/ton on August 1, with a price increase of 2.11%. Compared to the price of 2-ethylhexanol at the end of July, it also first decreased and then increased, with the price stabilizing. At the end of July, as the conflict in the Middle East eased, the price of 2-ethylhexanol fell from its high. In August, the price of 2-ethylhexanol continued to decline, with major 2-ethylhexanol manufacturers lowering their factory prices. However, as the differences between the US and Iran remained significant and the core contradictions were deep, the price of 2-ethylhexanol first decreased and then increased, leading to a high-level consolidation in the 2-ethylhexanol market.

Middle East Geopolitical Competition

On July 30, U.S. airstrikes on civilian residences on Iran’s Qeshm Island resulted in civilian casualties, once again worsening the already fragile relationship between the two sides. On August 1, Iran struck U.S. military bases in Jordan; the United States had originally planned a large-scale air strike but ultimately canceled its offensive plans at the last minute. From August 4 to 6, indirect talks mediated by Oman were initiated to discuss a temporary navigation arrangement for the Strait. The Middle East conflict remains highly volatile, characterized by a parallel dance of low-intensity military skirmishes and diplomatic mediation efforts. A full-scale conflict is unlikely to erupt, and international crude oil prices continue to trade at high levels.

Acrylic costs first fell and then rose.

According to the commodity market analysis system, the propylene price on August 7 was 8134.33 CNY/ton, which first decreased and then increased compared to the propylene price of 7927.67 CNY/ton on August 1, with a price increase of 2.61%. International crude oil prices were at a high level, and the propylene price in China first fell and then rose in August.

Outlook for the Future

The analyst specializing in octanol product data believes that, given the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, crude oil prices remain range-bound. Propylene prices initially fell and then rebounded, while cost support continues to underpin isooctanol prices, which also saw an initial decline followed by a subsequent rise. On the demand side, with the market in its off-season, the plasticizer market remains weak, placing limited upward pressure on isooctanol prices. Looking ahead, cost factors will continue to be the primary driver supporting isooctanol price trends. With U.S.-Iran talks progressing alongside ongoing diplomatic efforts in the Middle East—and with the likelihood of a full-scale conflict remaining low—crude oil prices are expected to stay range-bound, and the anticipated steady support from raw material costs will likely keep isooctanol prices trading at high levels in the near term.
