Mitsui Chemicals Starts Using Biomass Naphtha

Recently, Mitsui Chemicals announced that the company has begun to introduce biomass naphtha feedstock for its steam cracker in Osaka, Japan. It is reported that the company received 3,000 tons of biomass naphtha from Nestlé, Switzerland, whose raw materials are biomass waste and residual oil. Mitsui Chemicals stated that the company will use bio-based hydrocarbons to produce Japan's first biomass derivative. This move will help promote the adoption of biomass plastics and help achieve the goal of carbon neutrality.

In May, Mitsui Chemicals announced plans to use bio-based materials provided by Nestlé. According to ISCC Plus certification, the raw materials used to produce plastics and chemical derivatives will be shipped as certified bio-based products. Mitsui Chemicals is striving to achieve a circular economy through the dual methods of chemical recovery and production of biological materials. Products produced by the company's Osaka Petrochemical Plant include olefins, ammonia, urea, ethylene oxide, ethylene glycol and phenol.
