L'Oréal To Use 100% Recyclable Or Bio-based Plastics By 2030!
French cosmetics company L'Oreal has pledged to use 100% recycled or bio-based plastic in its packaging by 2030, as part of its sustainability plan.
In addition to this commitment, L'Oréal also plans to use 100% renewable energy by 2025 and make all manufacturing, management and research sites carbon neutral.
To enable consumers to make more sustainable choices, the company has developed a "Product Environmental and Social Impact Labeling Scheme" for its products, which runs from A to E, reportedly endorsed by independent scientific experts and independently audited Teacher Verification. Labels and scores are accessible on each individual product's webpage.
"L'Oréal's sustainable revolution is entering a new era. The challenges facing the planet are unprecedented, and we must accelerate our efforts to maintain a safe operating space for humanity. We do so in our own business operations and in our contribution to society as a whole. We know the biggest challenge is yet to come, and L'Oréal will stay true to its ambition: to do business on a planetary scale," said Jean-Paul Agon, chairman and chief executive of L'Oréal.
“Over the past decade, we have made sustainability at the heart of our business model. With our new commitment, we are entering a new phase of accelerated transformation: going beyond our direct impact on the environment to help consumers make better Sustainable choices, as well as generating positive social and environmental contributions. As industry leaders, our role is to contribute to an inclusive and sustainable society,” added Alexandra Palt, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer at L’Oréal.
