"My grandfather's generation can produce more than 5 tons of coal a day by working alone, and now it can produce about 30,000 tons a day." Looking at the screen, Zhao Changsheng sighed. In the first half of this year, 784 workers in Bayan Gaole Coal Mine set a new record of nearly 52,000 tons per day, of which 80% were produced by automatic cutting.

Fourty years ago, coal resources became an important part of national energy development. Many cities thrived on coal. Zhao Yishan, Zhao Changsheng's grandfather, became a coal miner in Lingzi Coal Mine of Zibo Mining Group. "At that time, it would take more than two hours to get to the coal face on two legs and walk in the roadway. Mining is basically lying on the ground, where the coal seam is a little thicker, it's good to squat in half. Zhao Changsheng gestured with his hand and said, "Listen to Grandpa, at that time, all the miners used shovels and picks to pull down the coal, then put it into the basket, through relay way to transport the coal out, and eventually winch the well with a hoist." The father of Wang Gensheng, the chief coal miner of Bayan Gore Coal Mine, is also an old miner of Zijin Coal Mine. He grew up listening to his father telling underground stories: "Coal miners used to be called'Coal blacks'. Every day, except their teeth are white, their whole body is dark. In the low coal seam, the support can only be stacked up by wood. The ventilation is not smooth. The underground is humid and hot, and the workers are soaked with sweat all over the day. At that time, there was no miner's lamp, and several people jointly used a torch to go down the well. The miners never ate in the mine and only drank a little water from the roof when they were thirsty. The key is that safety is not guaranteed. Everyone says that the miner works with his head fastened to his belt. He goes down the well in the morning and returns safely in the evening. No one knows.

In 1987, with the advance of reform and opening up, coal enterprises intensified scientific and technological innovation, introduced machinery and equipment, greatly improved underground working environment, and gradually reduced the labor intensity of workers. Zhao Changsheng's father, Zhao Qingzhuzi, was a coal miner in Bucun Coal Mine, Zibo Mining Group. Compared with Lingzi Coal Mine, Bucun Coal Mine has made a breakthrough across the era. In the aspect of mechanical application, there are slippers (a kind of coal conveying device) in coal mining face, and support facilities are relatively advanced single pillars. Mine ventilation, lighting and transportation systems are constantly improved. Coal mining is mainly blasting mining.

"When a big gun is laid down, coal dust is flying across the working face and five fingers are missing. In order to prevent collapse, miners have to drill into thick coal dust to support operations, and they have to stop for a moment. When the support is finished, the miners shovel the coal outside the slide onto the belt with a spade. Zhao Changsheng introduced that at that time, the safety accident was a persistent disease that could not be cured for a long time. "Small accidents are long running, big accidents are on the line. Almost every class has people knocking and scraping, and many of them are carried out by their workmates." Zhao Changsheng said with a bitter smile.

Stepped into a new era, Zibo Mining Group accelerated the transformation of new and old kinetic energy, promoted the transformation of coal production from "sweat type" to "wisdom type". Bayan Gaole Coal Mine took the lead in applying and exploring intelligent mining technology. In 2016, Bayan Gaole Coal Mine Fully Mechanized Mining Automation Team was formally established. After three years of joint efforts to tackle key problems, several technical barriers were overcome at one stroke. Before, we followed the shearer. Now, besides doing some simple maintenance work on the spot, through the centralized control room on the ground, we can control the underground shearer with white shirt in a dignified way. Nobody will call us "coal blacks". Zhao Changsheng said proudly.
