Recent Trends in Chemical Markets: Bisphenol A, Phenol, Acetone, Epichlorohydrin, and Epoxy Resin

ECHEMI 2023-11-13

Last week, the domestic market for Bisphenol A (BPA) continued its downward trend and weakened further. It started the week at 9,950 yuan/ton and fell to 9,500 yuan/ton by the end of the week, with a 4.5% decrease. Insufficient support from raw materials and increased cost pressure on BPA contributed to the limited follow-up from downstream buyers. Market confidence remained low, and many holders adopted a wait-and-see approach.

It is expected that the BPA market will continue to operate within a narrow range with weak trading activities.

Last week, the domestic market for epichlorohydrin (ECH) experienced a slight decline. It started the week at 8,450 yuan/ton and fell to 8,300 yuan/ton by the end of the week, with a 1.78% decrease. The market lacked positive factors, and negotiations for new contracts were weak. However, as downstream inventory continued to be consumed, there is expected to be some demand for small orders entering the market.

In the near future, the domestic ECH market is expected to remain stable, with occasional narrow adjustments in market sentiment. It is important to monitor developments in the upstream and downstream sectors, as well as trading dynamics.

Looking at the epoxy resin market outlook, the downward trend in the prices of raw materials has led to a continuous decrease in the cost of epoxy resin. With weak demand from downstream industries and limited actual trading activities, the market sentiment remains subdued.

It is anticipated that the epoxy resin market will continue to experience weak and volatile conditions. It is advisable to closely monitor the trends in raw material markets and the follow-up actions of downstream industries.
