About Cellulose

Cellulose is also not very digestible to most animals. Cellulose is one of nature's toughest fibers, but it isn't indigestible. It just takes time for humans to digest it.

Cellulose makes up plant cell walls and is what gives plants their rigidity. Because of its strength, cellulose has many uses in textiles, paper production, and food processing industries.

Cellulase in Textile Industry: Main Uses of Cellulose

Cellulose has many uses depending on which form it takes. The most common forms of cellulose are paper, wood and cotton. It is widely used for structural support as well as insulation and padding. For thousands of years, cellulose has been used to make paper and cloth. Today, it's also found in a wide variety of products such as coffee filters, diapers and even toothpaste. Cellulose is naturally occurring; however, not all types are created equal.

For example, some types can be derived from natural sources while others can only be produced synthetically or through microbial fermentation processes that require added ingredients like enzymes or yeast. In addition to its use in textiles and paper production, cellulose can also be broken down into glucose molecules that can then be converted into ethanol fuel or other biofuels for use in cars and trucks.

About Cellulases

You may have used cellulase in textile industry in different ways. However, there are other things you need to know about these products. Cellulases are a class of enzymes that digest cellulose. They have many uses, from removing make-up to solving crime. Textiles can also be treated with these enzymes, using them for several different purposes. For example, cellulases can be used for: Reducing pilling on fabrics (by increasing fiber smoothness) and removing stains (by breaking down fibers).

These enzymes are especially useful when it comes to cotton and linen, since they're able to break down cotton and linen fibers into their component parts. This makes it easier for other processes (like bleaching) to take place. The use of cellulases is becoming more common as time goes on. In fact, there's even research being done right now into how we might one day be able to print fabric using cellulase! But even though they're not yet common in textile production, they could become very important in years to come.

Catalytic Hydrolysis

Since cellulose is non-digestible and indigestible to most organisms, hydrolysis with appropriate enzymes can aid digestion. Hydrolysis as a means to dispose of cellulosic material is commonly used in pulp and paper industry settings, as well as for nutrient recovery from municipal waste water.

The process has also been considered for use in hydrogen production, biofuel production, ethanol fermentation, and biogas recovery. In catalytic hydrolysis (also called celluclast) microorganisms are used to break down cellulose into fermentable sugars. Such sugars can then be fermented by yeast or other microbes such as bacteria.

Cellulase in Textile Industry: Industrial Enzyme Production

Enzymes are often produced industrially by treating a microorganism with genes for an enzyme, and expressing them. The most common industrial production processes are: solid-state fermentation, submerged fermentation, cell suspension cultures, cell immobilization techniques and hybrid methods (processes that combine more than one technique).

Common microbial strains used for industrial production include Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida utilis, Trichoderma reesei and Amylomyces rouxii. Various expression vectors exist including plasmids, bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs), bacteriophages such as lambda phage or plant viral vectors such as tobacco mosaic virus.

Cellulolytic Bacteria

Through an enzymatic process, cellulolytic bacteria produce cellulase to break down plant fiber. They hydrolyze glucose chains into smaller fragments that can be used as nutrients by microorganisms and plants. The enzymes act on various substrates such as lignocellulose and starch, breaking them down into simple sugars (glucose), which can then be absorbed by other organisms, including humans.
