Indication
Used for cough and sputum caused by children's colds and bronchitis.
Usage and Dosage
Oral administration. 3 to 4 times a day. 5 to 15 years old: 5 to 15 ml each time; 2 to 5 years old: 3 to 4 ml each time; for children under 2 years old, reduce the dosage accordingly.
Adverse Reactions
1. Occasionally, there may be palpitations, fever, sweating, etc., which will disappear after a short rest. 2. Large doses or long-term use may cause mental excitement, tremors, anxiety, insomnia, heartache, palpitations, tachycardia, etc. 3. It may cause subtle emotional changes and cognitive and memory defects. 4. Long-term use may occasionally cause folic acid deficiency and hypocalcemia. 5. Rare megaloblastic anemia and osteomalacia. 6. Large doses may produce nystagmus, ataxia and severe respiratory depression. 7. About 1% to 3% of patients using this product have skin reactions, most commonly various rashes, severe cases may develop exfoliative dermatitis and erythema multiforme (or Stevens-Johnson syndrome), and toxic epidermal necrosis is extremely rare. 8. There are reports of hepatitis and liver dysfunction in users. 9. Long-term use may lead to drug dependence, and withdrawal syndrome is prone to occur after stopping the drug.
Precautions
1. This product is contraindicated for patients who are allergic to it. 2. This product is contraindicated for patients with liver and kidney dysfunction. 3. This product is contraindicated for patients with hypertension, arteriosclerosis, and angina pectoris. 4. This product is contraindicated for patients with hyperthyroidism.
Drug Interactions
1. Ephedrine is incompatible with sulfadiazine, nitrofurantoin, etc. 2. Ephedrine combined with adrenal cortical hormones can increase the latter's metabolic clearance rate, and the dose of corticosteroids needs to be adjusted. 3. Urine alkalinizing agents such as antacids, calcium and magnesium carbonates, citrates, sodium bicarbonate, etc. can affect the excretion of ephedrine hydrochloride in urine, increase the half-life of ephedrine hydrochloride, and prolong the duration of action. 4. Ephedrine should not be used in combination with pargyline monoamine oxidase inhibitors to avoid causing high blood pressure. 5. Ephedrine combined with digitalis glycosides can cause arrhythmias. 6. Ephedrine combined with ergonovine, ergotamine or oxytocin can aggravate vasoconstriction, leading to severe hypertension or peripheral tissue ischemia.
