      Product Detail  


    A methyl ether of cellulose.  White or light yellow or light gray particles (95% over 40 mesh sieve), filamentous or powder.  Odorless and tasteless.  Hygroscopicity.  Apparent density 0.3~0.7g/m1.  When all R in the structure is methyl, the displacement degree is equal to 3, and the methoxyl content is 45.57%.  Methylcellulose used as food additive, its methoxyl content should be between 26%~33%, its corresponding replacement degree is 1.7~2.2.  When the replacement degree is lower than 1.3, soluble in alkali, soluble in organic solvents above 2.6.  Chemicalbook dissolved in cold water, pyridine, aniline, trimethylformamide, benzyl alcohol and glacial acetic acid between 1.3 and 2.6. Aqueous solution is stable at neutral and normal temperature, and gels and precipitates at high temperature.  The gelation temperature depends on the viscosity and concentration of the solution. When the viscosity and concentration are large, the gelation temperature is lower.  The presence of inorganic salts can increase the viscosity.  As a non-ionic solution, polyvalent metals cannot be precipitated, and gelation occurs only when electrolyte concentration and other dissolved substances exceed certain limits.  The aqueous solution has surface activity and forms thin films after drying, which undergo a reversible transition from sol to gel after heating and cooling.

    Methylcellulose powder is stable, although slightly hygroscopic. The bulk material should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
    Solutions of methylcellulose are stable to alkalis and dilute acids at pH 3–11, at room temperature. At pH less than 3, acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of the glucose–glucose linkages occurs and the viscosity of methylcellulose solutions is reduced.On heating, solution viscosity is reduced until gel formation occurs at approximately 50°C;
