Medicinal grade lactose is a high-purity lactose produced specifically to meet the identification and purity standards specified in lactose monographs of various pharmacopoeias, including the United States Pharmacopeia/National Formulary (USP/NF). Lactose is widely used as a filler or diluent in tablets and capsules, but to a more limited extent in lyophilized products, infant formula, and dry powder inhalation diluents.
