foodmate 2022-11-28

On November 23, 2022, the Singapore Food Authority (SFA) announced that temporary restrictions on the import of poultry and their products near the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Hungary have been imposed.

Due to the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 in the Hungarian states of Bacci-Kirshkon and Jonggrad, temporary restrictions will be imposed on the import of ornamental birds, poultry and their products from 4 and 6 November 2022 (confirmed date). Heat-treated poultry products that meet the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) avian influenza virus inactivation requirements will not be affected by import restrictions.

Poultry products exported from Bacchi-Kishkon region before 4 November 2022 and slaughtered before 21 October 2022 will continue to be accepted for import. Poultry products exported from Jonglad before 6 November 2022 and slaughtered before 23 October 2022 will continue to be accepted for import.

In order to facilitate customs clearance permits for other poultry and poultry products, the accompanying veterinary health certificate should also include the following additional proof when importing poultry and products:

a. Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and H5 and H7 low-pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) are notifiable diseases in exporting countries.

b. Poultry of meat origin are not vaccinated against avian influenza of H5 and H7 subtypes, as defined by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

c. Poultry meat and meat products are not originating from affected areas.

d. Poultry of meat origin is youngsters that were born, raised and slaughtered in Hungary or are legally imported from countries with the same poultry health status.
