Singapore suspended imports of poultry products from areas affected by the highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in Germany

foodmate 2022-11-28

Food Partner News: On November 23, 2022, the Singapore Food Authority (SFA) announced that it has imposed temporary restrictions on the import of poultry and their products near the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Germany.

Due to the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 on poultry farms in Hesse, temporary restrictions will be imposed on the import of poultry and their products within 10 km of the affected areas from 9 November 2022. Heat-treated poultry products that meet the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) avian influenza virus inactivation requirements will not be affected by import restrictions.

In order to facilitate customs clearance permits for other poultry and poultry products, the accompanying veterinary health certificate should also include the following additional proof when importing poultry and products:

a. Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and H5 and H7 low-pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) are notifiable diseases in exporting countries.

b. Poultry of meat origin are not vaccinated against avian influenza of H5 and H7 subtypes, as defined by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

c. Poultry meat and meat products are not originating from restricted areas within a 10 km radius around the affected sites.

d. Poultry of meat origin is born, raised and slaughtered in Germany or is a day-old chick legally imported from a country with equivalent poultry health.
