A truck reportedly backed into a loading dock at the plant, caught fire and exploded.

At a press conference two hours after the accident, the official spokesman said the explosion occurred during the transfer of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which workers were transferring from one tank truck to another. Liquefied petroleum gas, a mixture of propylene and propane, is a feedstock used in the production of metallocene, which is an intermediate chemical used in the production of phenol, a refined product used in the production of everyday consumer goods and building materials.

INEOS officials said that during the unloading of liquefied petroleum gas, the gas ignited a spark that caused the explosion. Its team immediately contacted firefighters and rescued the facility, and the fire was officially extinguished at 1pm. The driver of the third-party bulk truck was injured and taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition.

There are no known impacts on the community or shelters, according to authorities, but healthcare officials will investigate and monitor air quality in the area to ensure safety.

Ineos is one of the world's leading petrochemical companies. Headquartered in Switzerland, Ineos manufactures and markets petrochemicals, specialty chemicals and petroleum products with a global network of operations.
