An outbreak of Newcastle disease has occurred in Poland

On July 12, 2023, the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) that a new outbreak of Newcastle disease had occurred in Poland.


The outbreak was confirmed on July 11, 2023 in Białystok, Podlaskie Voivodeship. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Laboratory testing found that 43,410 poultry were suspected of being infected, with 43,410 showing symptoms and 29,488 dying. 13,922 birds were killed and disposed of.


The outbreak is still ongoing, and the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will submit follow-up reports on a weekly basis.
