Adama's first global biocide, ACTAVAN®, is registered in Peru

2023-08-11

Adama announced the registration of ACTAVAN®, a global biocide, in Peru. ACTAVAN® is the first biocide developed by Adama in collaboration with Waikaitu Limited in New Zealand for the global market.

ACTAVAN® uses plant extracts to prevent fruit rot in grapes, berries and some vegetable varieties, while improving fruit quality. In addition, ACTAVAN® improves sugar content, skin firmness, fruit diameter and weight, and reduces fruit cracking.

As a biological product, ACTAVAN® can be used in organic farming to assist in integrated pest management. ACTAVAN® is one of the key innovations in Adama's bio-based plant protection products, providing a reliable and efficient bactericidal tool for all types of farming using innovative active ingredients and complementing the company's existing product line.

Walter Costa, Vice President of Marketing and Product Strategy at Adama, said: "Farmers around the world are looking for highly effective biocides that can both promote sustainable agricultural practices and enable their crops to produce high-quality fruit. Our collaboration with Waikaitu has resulted in the development of an innovative and potent biocide that not only meets the different requirements at all stages of the value chain, but also meets the high quality standards that fruit and vegetable producers seek."

ACTAVAN® fully activates the crop's immune system, resulting in sustained positive results. In addition, unlike many other fungicides, ACTAVAN® does not require a safe interval between crops before harvest, giving farmers more flexibility when planning application.

"We are proud to partner with Adama to provide farmers with an important product that helps maintain an ecological balance," said Alex Pressman, CEO and founder of Waikaitu. "Sustainable agriculture is the way to feed the world's population in the future, benefiting both our business and the planet. "ACTAVAN® is an example of sustainable farming by protecting crops from harmful fungi and improving fruit quality while meeting the requirements of organic farming and sustainable farming."

Peru has been registered and other countries are following suit

ACTAVAN® is currently registered in Peru, and Adama expects to roll out to other countries in Latin America, as well as Asia Pacific and Europe in the near future. Adama currently offers more than 50 biological solutions, such as Bralic, a garlic-based insecticide, and Protege, a microbially based nematode and fungicide.
