International Flavors & Fragrances expands Shanghai plant to strengthen portfolio offerings for Asian markets
International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) is renovating and expanding its Shanghai plant, scheduled to be completed by the end of August. The 16,000-square-meter plant, called the Shanghai Creative Center, is IFF's largest facility in Asia.
The company said the project aims to drive the development of innovative solutions for IFF's portfolio in China and the Greater Asia market, further strengthening its offerings in flavors, fragrances, functional ingredients and biosciences portfolios.
"The Shanghai Innovation Center will bring all of IFF's capabilities together in one place, enabling us to better provide end-to-end solutions to customers in Asia and around the world," said Erik Fyrwald, CEO of IFF. "This is the next strategic step after the opening of the Singapore Innovation Center in 2022, reaffirming our commitment to driving innovation in Asia."
"The Shanghai Creative Center will foster outstanding creativity and support taste, biotechnology and the art of perfumery, thereby bringing more breakthrough innovations to our portfolio," added Ana Paula Mendonça, President of IFF's Scent.
With collaboration and co-creation at its core, the expanded center is expected to become a hub for technical synergy and sensory exploration. According to IFF, the Shanghai Creative Center includes a sensory science center, a scent creative center, and laboratories for creation, design, and product analysis, creating an environment where all technical disciplines converge.
The location also features a sampling area, an exclusive high-end perfume area focused on the art of perfume, and a 360° digital space that provides an immersive olfactory experience that connects the physical and digital realms.
