2 New Production Lines from LDC Set to Boost Indonesia’s Exports and Create 200 Jobs by 2025

ECHEMI 2025-06-01

On May 27, 2025, Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) marked a significant step in its Asia-Pacific expansion with the official launch of two major facilities in Lampung, Indonesia—a glycerin refining plant and a new edible oil packaging line.

With global demand for USP-grade refined glycerin projected to grow at a 2.5% CAGR through 2040, LDC’s newly built plant—designed to produce 55,000 tons annually—positions the company as a key ingredient supplier to the pharmaceutical, personal care, and cosmetics industries. These sectors are driving the rise in demand for high-purity inputs worldwide.

Xuejun Zhou, LDC’s Chief Commercial Officer and President of the Plant-based Ingredients Platform and Asia Region, emphasized that the project represents a critical milestone, strengthening the company’s global processing capabilities and leveraging synergies across locations in Indonesia, the U.S., and Europe.

The edible oil packaging line adds another 64,800 tons of capacity, giving LDC a strategic edge to capture export opportunities while supporting Indonesia’s goal of developing value-added downstream palm oil products. Located close to major export hubs, the facility is expected to significantly enhance LDC’s global supply chain efficiency.

Rajat Dutt, Head of LDC Indonesia, highlighted the broader impact of this initiative, which is forecast to create 200 local jobs by the end of 2025, contributing to Lampung’s socio-economic development and workforce upskilling. LDC’s move underlines its long-term investment commitment to the world’s largest glycerin-producing country.
