South Korea's Cosmetics Exports Surpass the US, Second only to France
The latest trade data shows that South Korea has replaced the United States as the world's second largest cosmetics exporter, second only to France.
According to the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), South Korea's cosmetics exports reached US$3.61 billion from January to April 2025, slightly higher than the United States ($3.57 billion) in the same period, marking the first time that South Korea's cosmetics exports have exceeded the United States.
South Korea's momentum has continued. In 2024, South Korea's cosmetics exports reached US$10.3 billion, surpassing Germany and ranking third in the world. South Korea's beauty product exports grew much faster than its competitors, increasing by 20.3% year-on-year, while France and the United States increased by 6.3% and 1.1% respectively. In 2025, South Korea's monthly exports continued to accelerate, exceeding US$1 billion in April alone.
Emerging markets in Europe and the Middle East contributed to the growth. Exports to Poland increased by 121% year-on-year to US$111.8 million from January to May, and exports to the United Arab Emirates increased by 74% to US$99.3 million.
Driven by competitive innovation, affordable prices and strong digital marketing, Korean beauty products continue to expand globally, driving export growth. As mature markets stabilize, Korean brands are gaining a foothold in emerging regions such as Eastern Europe and the Middle East, helping to improve South Korea's ranking in the global beauty trade.
