€500 Million Polyamide Shake-Up! BASF Takes Full Control of French Production Hub in Bold Move
BASF has made a decisive leap in the European polyamide market by acquiring the remaining 49% stake in Alsachimie from DOMO Chemicals, taking exclusive ownership of the key facility based in Chalampé, France. The transaction—details of which remain confidential—places BASF at the helm of a site specializing in essential precursors such as KA oil, adipic acid, and AH salt.
With this full takeover, BASF strengthens its backward integration for polyamide 6.6, locking in a stable, efficient supply of vital raw materials. The move also solidifies the strategic importance of the Chalampé site as BASF’s European production cornerstone for the material.
For DOMO Chemicals, the sale aligns with its renewed focus on delivering tailored polyamide solutions to core sectors like automotive, industrial, consumer, and electronics. The agreement is a strategic fit, allowing DOMO to zero in on custom offerings for these vital industries.
This latest development follows a series of capacity-boosting investments by BASF at Chalampé, including a new hexamethylenediamine facility and expanded polymerization in Freiburg, Germany. Industry watchers are closely monitoring BASF’s aggressive expansion, which could reshape the supply chain for polyamide 6.6 across Europe.
