LANXESS Will Expand The Production of High-tech Engineering Plastics in China!

ECHEMI 2021-11-29

LANXESS will expand its production network in China: The specialty chemicals company will build a second composite production line for high-tech engineering plastics under the Durethan and Pocan brands at its production base in Changzhou. An important investment of approximately 30 million euros will increase Changzhou's production capacity by 30,000 tons per year. Together with the existing facilities in Changzhou and Wuxi, this will bring the company's total compound production capacity in China to 110,000 tons/year. The new production line is scheduled to be put into operation in the first quarter of 2023.

"This expansion is to meet the strong demand we have received from the growing Chinese automobile industry. With the vigorous development of electric vehicles, it promotes new requirements for lightweight applications, and continues to increase the number of electronic components used in automobiles. Share.” said Hubert Fink, a member of the LANXESS Management Board. "The new production line marks another important step in expanding our footprint in Greater China."

Solutions for electric vehicles

LANXESS regards electric vehicles as one of its main application areas for its polyamide 6 (PA6) and polyamide 66 (PA66) compounds Durethan, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) compound Pocan and continuous fiber reinforced composite material Tepex . The company has provided a wide range of products that meet the most challenging standards and specifications in the global electrical and electronic industries in terms of flame retardancy, electrical performance and ecological behavior.

Durethan and Pocan high-performance plastics can also be used to make parts that can replace metal parts of motor vehicles, and in this way contribute to weight reduction, energy consumption and related emissions. For example, these innovative materials are used in engine applications, door structures, body reinforcement, pedals, fronts and car beams. Depending on the components, the lightweight design can help reduce weight by up to 50%.
