Evant launched laser welding polycarbonate
Evant announced that its Edgetek special thermoplastic material product portfolio will add new laser welded polycarbonate grade materials.
The company said that the new formula could be applied to small household appliances, personal care products, consumer electronics, medical care equipment and industrial electronic products. It can help manufacturers to achieve the welding effect of high fastness, no particles and weld beading in the production of thin-walled parts, to meet the increasingly complex design structure and the aesthetic standards constantly improved by users. In addition to welding performance, this new product has excellent flame retardancy, high impact and high fluidity, which can meet the unique needs of a variety of applications.
Xu Tao, General Manager of Evant Asia Pacific Special Engineering Materials Division, said that compared with ultrasonic welding and vibration welding, plastic laser welding has many advantages. The key to its quality lies in the transmissivity and absorptivity of the components for laser energy. In general, flame retardants and colorants will reduce the laser transmittance of materials, so that materials can absorb less energy in the welding process. The new Edgetek polycarbonate laser welding formula contains four grades of products, which can meet the key requirements of laser transmittance, and provide pre coloring or flame retardant specifications without affecting the mechanical properties of the welding points.
Evant said that the company's laser welding materials can provide a variety of different base resin options, such as polyamide 66 and polybutylene terephthalate. These materials are currently produced in Asia.
