• Synthesis of unnatural α-amino acids: The methylene group in its molecule can generate a carbanion under strong base conditions, which can undergo alkylation reactions with alkyl halides. • Pharmaceutical intermediate: It is primarily used in the synthesis of lincomycin-type antibiotics, such as demethylchlorolincomycin hydrochloride, lincomycin, and its phosphate derivatives.
