Description: Dinoprostone is a white to off-white solid. It is a naturally occurring prostaglandin (PG) that induces contractions in the uterus at all stages of pregnancy; however, uterine sensitivity to PGE2 varies across these stages, with the term uterus exhibiting the greatest sensitivity.

Chemical Properties: Dinoprostone is a white to off-white solid. Melting point: 64–66°C; specific rotation: -61° (26°C, c=1, THF). It is susceptible to hydrolysis at pH < 4 or pH > 8. It is readily soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol, and absolute ethanol, but sparingly soluble in water.

Uses: As one of the most biologically active prostaglandins, it can induce cervical ripening and labor, mediate bradykinin-induced vasodilation, and regulate adenylate cyclase. Tumor cells overexpressing cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) exhibit enhanced invasiveness, angiogenic potential, and resistance to apoptosis; this is likely attributable to PGE2-induced expression of angiogenic factors and the stabilization of the anti-apoptotic protein survivin. PGE2 exerts mixed effects on the immune system. In vitro, it inhibits T-cell activation, suggesting an immunosuppressive role; however, in vivo, it influences the expansion of Th17 subsets and the differentiation of Th1 helper T-cell subsets, indicating an immunostimulatory role.
