Drug Function and Efficacy

Melarsomine dihydrochloride is an organic arsenical chemotherapeutic agent. It acts on Dirofilaria immitis, the canine heartworm parasite, and is rapidly absorbed when injected intramuscularly. The exact mode of action on D. immitis is not fully specified, but it is known to target adult heartworms and immature forms.
