An outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza has occurred in Hungary
According to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), on 20 December 2022, the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture's Food Chain Safety Authority informed WOAH of an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Hungary.
According to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), on 20 December 2022, the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture's Food Chain Safety Authority informed WOAH of an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Hungary.
The outbreak was confirmed on 19 December 2022 in the municipality of Puspercladani in the state of Howidu-Bihor. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Laboratory testing found 25,812 birds suspected of infection, of which 2175 became ill and died, and 23,637 were killed and disposed of.
As the outbreak continues, the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture's Food Chain Safety Authority will submit weekly follow-up reports.
