An outbreak of highly pathogenic influenza A H5N1 occurred in Cyprus

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), on December 9, 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus reported to WOAH that there was an outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic influenza A in Cyprus.

 
The outbreak occurred in Famagusta District and was confirmed on 2 December 2022. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Clinical, autopsy and laboratory tests found that 1 mallards became ill and died; Another 4 birds became ill, and 846 were killed and disposed of.
 
The pandemic is still ongoing, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus will submit a follow-up report on a weekly basis.
