L'Oreal Invests in Longevity Skin Care Brand Timeline
Biotechnology company Timeline raised $66 million in an oversubscribed Series D round of financing, with investments from both L’Oréal and Nestlé, and the project was led by L’Oréal’s corporate venture capital fund Business Opportunities for L’Oréal Development (BOLD).
Patrick Aebischer, co-founder and chairman of Timeline, said: "This strategic collaboration exemplifies a breakthrough multidimensional approach that we continue to believe is necessary to achieve meaningful progress in longevity and health."
L'Oréal said the funds will support Timeline's business growth, help expand its scientific division and enter new markets in food, beauty and health.
"Longevity means living healthier for longer, and L'Oréal has been working for a decade to understand and predict what this means for beauty. Longevity is the new definition of beauty. It is the intersection of different scientific disciplines, from decoding biomarkers to analysing external exposure." said Barbara Lavernos, Deputy CEO and Head of Research, Innovation and Technology at L'Oréal.
L'Oréal has been increasing its investments in technology and biotech companies in recent months.
In December 2023, L'Oréal acquired probiotic and microbiome research company Lactobio for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition is intended to enhance and accelerate microbiome research that has been underway for the past 20 years.
L'Oréal also acquired outstanding shares in water technology startup Gjosa in January 2024. L'Oréal said the investment is aimed at expanding the Swiss company's water-saving solutions in the beauty industry and improving the business's water management systems and technologies.
