OQ Chemical n-butanol and other basic chemicals increase prices

ECHEMI 2024-03-19

OQ Chemical announced that starting from April 1, it will raise prices for some basic chemicals produced and sold in the United States. The company said that the price increase was mainly due to changes in the relationship between supply and demand. The price adjustment products are mainly n-butanol, isobutanol, butyl acetate, isobutyl acetate, butyraldehyde and neopentyl glycol produced at the Bay City factory in Texas, USA.

Previously, OQ Chemical said that due to severe supply interruptions by raw material suppliers, the company declared that certain products produced at the Oberhausen plant in Germany encountered force majeure.

On February 27, a raw material supplier's syngas unit at OQ Chemical's Oberhausen plant experienced a severe operational disruption. The plant partner produces specialty gases, including synthesis gas, which are supplied to OQ Chemicals as raw materials for further processing. The affected units of raw material suppliers automatically stop production. Operations at the synthetic unit were disrupted, resulting in four people receiving preventive medical examinations and being discharged the same day.

The cessation of synthesis gas production has resulted in supply restrictions for certain products produced at the OQ chemical plant in Oberhausen until further notice. Discontinued products include isobutyraldehyde, n-butyraldehyde, n-butanol, isobutanol, 2-ethylhexanol, n-butyl acetate, n-butylamine (all grades), TCD alcohol DM, neopentyl glycol, n-butyraldehyde,Isovaleraldehyde, 2-methylbutyric acid, 2-ethylhexanoic acid, n-butyric acid, isobutyric acid, isononanoic acid, isovaleric acid, isovaleric acid, n-valeric acid, OXSOFT 3G8 and OXFILM 351.

At this time, OQ Chemistry is unable to provide more detailed information on the duration of this condition. However, the company has notified customers and is actively working to minimize the impact on the supply chain and resume production as soon as possible.
