Syensqo acquires natural rosemary extract company Azerys
Syensqo has completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in Azerys, a rosemary extraction specialist with assets located in El Jadida, Morocco.
Azerys produces a 100% natural, plant-based, non-GMO preservative rosemary extract range that replaces traditional food additives and meets consumer demand for more natural food ingredients. This complementary acquisition complements Syensqo’s leading business in producing natural vanillin from rice bran and enables the company to expand its capabilities in renewable consumer product solutions.
Similar to other recent acquisitions such as Jin Young Bio, it fits with Syensqo’s strategic focus on the Renewable Materials and Biotech growth platform.
“Natural preservatives are a growing sector in the bioeconomy and rosemary extracts are a key product for food preservation that is requested by customers in this sector,” commented Jo Grosemans, Head of Business Development for the Renewable Materials and Biotech platform. "As a leading global supplier of vanillin, we have a strong reputation for quality and service, and we will bring the same values to this new space."
Syensqo CEO Ilham Kadri added: "This acquisition is in line with the company's mission to provide sustainable, natural solutions, and we look forward to exploring new possibilities through the power of green extraction technology."
Azerys relies on state-of-the-art facilities and a strong network of local cooperatives to support sustainable and responsible agriculture to recover high-value ingredients from rosemary. Syensqo will leverage its leading supply chain, innovation capabilities and global customer reach to accelerate the development of new product lines that align with its growth strategy.
