Omya acquires thermoplastics distributor Distrupol from GPD Companies
Omya announced the acquisition of Distrupol, a thermoplastics distributor and a subsidiary of GPD Companies, Inc. (GPD). The strategic acquisition, brokered by DC Advisory, is intended to strengthen Omya’s geographic and product presence in the global plastics distribution market.
The acquisition by Switzerland-based Omya underscores its strategic goal to strengthen its global plastics distribution business. While the transaction is subject to regulatory approval, it is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025.
UK-based Distrupol has been a trusted distributor of thermoplastic polymers and elastomers for more than 60 years. The company serves major industries in Europe, including consumer products, medical, automotive, and electrical. In recent years, Distrupol has expanded its footprint with the acquisitions of Baritec AB and Lautrup Chemical in the Nordic region, as well as entering the German, French, Spanish, and Italian markets. Its strong presence spans the UK, Ireland, Benelux, the Nordics, and Egypt.
"On behalf of GPD Companies, I would like to thank DC Advisory for their support in this transaction, which is a great outcome for all parties involved." said Michael Everett, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of GPD Companies, Inc.
"We are pleased to support GPD in this strategic transaction. Distrupol is a very good business and is expected to play an important role in Omya's continued growth. This is a major milestone transaction for DC Advisory's international chemicals and advanced materials practice," said Federico Mennella, Managing Director, CFA, DC Advisory.
