Mitsubishi Chemical Group Expands Synthetic Silicon Powder Production Capacity

ECHEMI 2024-12-24

Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG Group) has decided to expand the production capacity of "Mitsubishi Synthetic Silicon", a synthetic silicon powder used in semiconductor manufacturing processes, at its Fukuoka Plant in Kyushu, with production scheduled to start in September 2028.

This product is a synthetic silicon powder with ultra-high purity that can be used as a raw material for quartz crucibles used in the production of semiconductor silicon and a raw material for high-purity quartz parts in semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

The surface of the quartz crucible must be extremely pure, especially during ingot manufacturing, to prevent impurities from being mixed in, as impurities can seriously reduce the quality of the wafer. This product has achieved the world's highest sand silica purity through manufacturing technology accumulated over many years, and has high competitiveness in this application field.

Mitsubishi Chemical Group's decision to increase production capacity is to meet the continued growth of the semiconductor market.
