DuPont announces expansion of ion exchange resin production capacity
On June 26, DuPont has announced the expansion of its ion exchange resin production to meet the global high demand for its pharmaceutical products, such as excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredients (API).
DuPont Water Solutions is a leading manufacturer of separation and filtration technologies, including reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration membranes and ion exchange resins. Although its technology is essential for the purification of drinking water, many of the same technologies are essential for the separation and concentration of the entire life science industry to produce food, beverages, therapeutic drugs, and diagnostics. When used as excipients or APIs, ion exchange resins also aid in drug formulation and advanced drug delivery.
In order to support the growth of pharmaceutical customers and the demand for cGMP qualified products, DuPont is expanding its ability to manufacture and supply these key products. By adding some key technologies to its production operations, these investments will enhance supply security to improve current and future drug formulations.
Production expansion will be carried out in phases. The first phase—increasing the production capacity of DuPont’s dedicated cGMP pharmaceutical production unit in Chauny, France—has been completed and is undergoing qualification certification. The next phase-which will focus on increasing the supply of excipients and absorbent products in high demand-is expected in the next few years.
Condylia Courtney, global product line manager for ion exchange resins, said: "When our customers choose one of our products, they expect us to provide not only what they need today, but also what they need for the product life cycle." This investment shows that we are committed to growing with our customers and ensuring the supply of their key accessories."
With the expansion of production, DuPont is also increasing regulatory resources. The enlarged supervisory team will continue to work with technical experts to develop new applications, launch new products, and strive to ensure the best product quality and performance in each market.
