  • Description

Sericite is a kind of fine-grained flakes white mineral mica. The structure is dioctahedron namely being composed

of two  layers of silica tetrahedron and a layer of aluminum oxide octahedral structure, the top of tetrahedral oxygen

species (Reactive oxygen species) and additional anion (OH), located in the center of the network of the two layers,

and active  crystal water formed. Sericite can be split into very thin flakes, ratio of radius to thickness lager than 70,

with density of 2.6-2.7 and hardness at 2-3. It showed excellent elastic, flexible, abrasion resistance, wear resistance

and heat  insulation,It also showed poor solubility in acid or alkali solution, super chemical properties and high heat-

resistance,(above 1000 æ and high chemical corrosion resistance, excellent UV shielding effect. The appearance of

sericite showed like silk and smooth feeling.

Moreover, the chemical composition and structure of sericite are similar to kaolin, but also has some characteristics

of clay minerals, which has good dispersity in aqueous media and organic solvents, showed white color and sticky.

Therefore, sericite has characteristics of both mica minerals and clay minerals. Sericite is widely used in anti-corrosion

paints, coatings, plastics, rubber, synthetic  materials, refractory materials, cosmetics, electrical  insulation materials

    and other industries.

General sericite has poor miscibility with polymer, the  interface between them is clear, and  the  binding is weak.

Therefore, the mechanical properties of material  will decrease when  filled with sericite. While polymer was filled with

modified sericite composite material which  combined a large number of polymer molecules,  the melted polymer and

the grafted polymer chains on the surface of sericite interpenetrate each other, making the  interface blurred, "anchor"

structure between them was created. The material was toughed or strengthened.

MICA, a generic term, refers to any of a group of approximately 30 silicate minerals occurring as non-fibrous plates. Muscovite (hydrated aluminium potassium silicate[KAl2(AlSi3O10)(F, OH)2 ])and phlogopite (potassium magnesium aluminum silicate hydroxide) are the two major micas of commerce. Micas are commonly found in ordinary rocks. Inhalation of mica dust presents an occupational hazard.
