The environmental impact assessment of 5,000 tons of Sulfonylurea herbicide intermediate expansion project of Fengle has been accepted

Recently, the Jingmen Bureau of Ecological Environment website publicized the environmental impact assessment document acceptance of Fengle’s 5,000 t/a Methyl 2-(aminosulfonyl)benzoate project. Fengle plans to invest a total of ¥120 million in the development land reserved in the existing factory to expand the project with an annual output of 5,000 tons of Methyl 2-(aminosulfonyl)benzoate.

Methyl 2-(aminosulfonyl)benzoate is an intermediate of medicine and pesticide, which is mainly used in the synthesis of Sulfonylurea herbicides. Sulfonylurea herbicides was discovered by DuPont in the United States. The discovery of this kind of product brought herbicide into the era of super high efficiency, which changed the dosage of herbicide from 1 ~ 3kg(a.i.)/hm2 to 1 ~ 200 g(a.i.)/hm². The research in this field is one of the most active research fields of chemical pesticides. Now there are dozens of kinds of herbicides, among which there is a class of products such as Chlorimuron-ethyl technical, Amidosulfuron, Primisulfuron-methyl, Propoxycar bazonesodiurn, Sulfometuron-Methyl，Metsulfuron methyl and other nearly one-fifth of the varieties of Sulfonylurea herbicides related to Methyl 2-(aminosulfonyl)benzoate. It is one of the main raw materials for the synthesis of the above several herbicides.

Hubei Fengle, which was formerly known as Chufeng, is a large-scale fertilizer enterprise specializing in fertilizer research and development and production. From 2003 to 2022, it has invested and built six production projects, including 150,000 tons of Calcium phosphate tribasic construction project, 200,000 tons of uricacidsodium compound fertilizer project, 300,000 tons of mineral processing production line construction project, and 100,000 tons of granular phosphate fertilizer construction project. 100,000 t/a organic-inorganic compound fertilizer project, annual output of 10,000 tons of Toluene sulfonyl chloride project. Six product lines have obtained EIA approval and passed acceptance.
