ROHM acquires SABIC's polycarbon sheet business
On December 30, 2022, ROHM Group announced that it will acquire SABIC's polycarbonate (PC) film sheet business, pending customary negotiations with relevant labor unions and approval by antitrust authorities. With this acquisition, ROHM will further strengthen its position in the industry by adding PC sheet and film to its existing polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) sheet and film business.
Mingxia Pei, CEO of ROHM, said: "With the introduction of the PC resin extrusion business, we can continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the sheet and film market. Through the joint efforts of materials, products and application development and sales, we will provide customers with more complete and professional services. He added that negotiations with relevant European unions are expected to be completed in the coming months. Regulatory approvals and the divestiture of the business from SABIC are expected to close in the first half of 2024.
SABIC's PC film sheet business is a global leader and offers a broad and high-quality product portfolio. The business has an extensive global presence, with production sites on all continents and operations in 19 countries. It is reported that the combined business of this segment is expected to have sales of more than 700 million euros and has 14 production bases around the world.
