Dutch start-up Farmless received €1.2M in financing to turn renewable electricity into food

Recently, according to relevant media reports, Dutch start-up Farmless completed a pre-feed financing of 1.2 million euros, led by Revent, Nucleus Capital, and Possible Ventures. It is reported that this round of financing will be used to explore more suitable animal protein microorganisms, as well as establish laboratories and scientific teams. The company mainly ferments liquid raw materials made from carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and renewable energy to generate non animal protein substitutes.

Turning renewable electricity into food

Farmless was founded by physicist and serial entrepreneur Adnan Oner in Amsterdam, with the mission of liberating food production from animals and farmland. Its goal is to establish an innovative platform that can convert renewable electricity into food.

 

The initial product of Farmless was aimed at replacing animal protein, as most farmland is currently used to feed animals. The non farm fermentation platform has the potential to create a brand new food bank for the production of proteins, carbohydrates, beneficial fats, vitamins, and minerals.


The company has the potential to decouple food production from animal and agricultural land. It is different from other fermentation startups because it does not use sugar as a raw material, but can be made into liquids using electricity and air. Its protein requires 500 times less land than animal protein, which can reverse agricultural expansion and rebuild the world. Their liquid raw materials can be manufactured anywhere rich and cheap in renewable energy.
