Azelis acquires Polish specialty chemicals distributor Hortimex

Azelis has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Hortimex, a specialty chemicals distributor active in the food ingredients and nutraceuticals sectors in the Polish market.

The acquisition, expected to close in the fourth quarter, after customary closing conditions, will expand the Antwerp-based distribution group’s footprint in Poland and complement Azelis’ horizontal value chain in the food and nutrition sectors. Azelis is active in this market with its regional competence center for meat and meat substitutes in Poznan, Poland, while Hortimex is a well-known food ingredients distributor with a particular focus on non-meat applications such as human nutrition, functional preparations, confectionery and bakery products.

The acquisition provides the specialty chemicals and ingredients distributor with an opportunity to better serve local customers and accelerate its growth in Poland, thanks to its broad product range, experienced sales and technical teams and long-standing business relationships with key customers.

Founded in 1988 by the Kowalewski family and headquartered in Konin, Hortimex has grown to become a leader in healthy ingredients and specialty products for food production companies in Poland. With a team of 35 employees, including experienced sales and technical experts, the company serves more than 800 customers.
