EU Issues Urgent Alert: Four Food Issues from China, Including GMOs and Unauthorized Substances

According to the notification of Week 47 of 2024 published on the official website of the EU, the EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed category (RASFF) notified four cases of food and related products from China. Details of the notification are as follows:

1. On 18 November 2024, Belgium notified an incident of dog gum biting under the notification number 2024.8486. The product, which was not under official control at border checkpoints, is being distributed to other Member States and the relevant authorities have been notified. This is a follow-up briefing.

2. On 19 November 2024, France notified a problem concerning food enzymes, notification No. 2024.8517. The product contained unauthorized genetically modified ingredients, but the notifying country said the product was not distributed and has been withdrawn from the market. This is a notice of caution.

3.On 20 November 2024, Latvia notified a matter concerning green tea, notification No. 2024.8552. According to the regulations, the goods are not subject to official control at the first point of entry into the EU, the product has not been placed on the market and will be destroyed. This is a denial of entry notification.

4.On 21 November 2024, Italy notified a problem with porcini under the notification number 2024.8575. The product contains an unauthorized substance, amethrin (0.33 ± 0.17 mg/kg), and is not yet on the market. This is a denial of entry notification.
