PCC plans to build a 340,000 ton per year chlor-alkali facility at Chemours titanium dioxide plant

ECHEMI 2024-12-11

Chemours announced that PCC plans to build and operate a chlor-alkali facility at the Chemours titanium dioxide (TiO2) plant in DeLisle, Mississippi, USA, and PCC and Chemours have entered into a chlorine supply agreement, subject to certain customary conditions precedent.

The new plant will utilize advanced technology to maximize energy efficiency and will have an annual production capacity of 340,000 metric tons once the plant is operational. PCC will sell by-product caustic soda to strategic partners and the open market. Construction of the plant is expected to begin in early 2026 and be operational in 2028.

Denise Dignam, Chemours President and CEO, said, "Partnering with PCC Group to improve supply reliability with on-site chlorine at our titanium dioxide facility, this new partnership, which does not require any upfront financial commitment from Chemours, will enable us to reduce manufacturing costs, become their trusted titanium dioxide partner, and better serve our customers. It also strengthens our commitment to the Mississippi Gulf Coast community."

"Our collaboration with Chemours reflects PCC's commitment to growing its chemicals business by building long-term partnerships," said Peter Wenzel, CEO of PCC SE. "We are committed to leveraging decades of experience to safely and responsibly expand our chemicals business at this site. We look forward to successfully working with a large, globally recognized company like Chemours to set the industry benchmark while evaluating additional opportunities in the region."

The project will create full-time opportunities for PCC's technical staff and up to 1,200 temporary construction jobs.
