New raw material for brain health market: galangal extract
Galangal has the effects of regulating gastrointestinal function, analgesia, and anti-inflammatory. Recently, new research has evaluated the safety and effectiveness of galangal extract on brain health.
The extract is the brand raw material EnXtra of Enovate Biolife. In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study, a total of 69 participants were randomly assigned to receive 300 mg EnXtra and 200 mg caffeine, 300 mg EnXtra alone, and placebo twice a day for continuous 12 weeks.
Researchers assess cardiovascular safety by measuring changes in QT interval, blood pressure and heart rate. The results were determined by using the Bond and Lader Mood Scale to measure changes in perceived alertness and calmness, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index to measure sleep disorders, and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale to measure daytime sleepiness.
The results of the study showed that after 12 weeks, there were no significant changes in QT interval, blood pressure, or heart rate in all groups, indicating that caffeine-containing or non-caffeine-containing ingredients are safe. In terms of efficacy measurement, the Bond and Lader scores of the EnXtra group and the EnXtra/caffeine group were significantly increased in alertness and sedation compared with placebo. These results occurred within three hours, and there were no significant changes in sleep quality and daytime sleepiness measurements in any group. The results of this study were published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition.
With the popularity of nootropic ingredients and consumer demand for natural, decaffeinated alternatives, current research shows that EnXtra is a feasible and safe solution for finished product manufacturers.
