AkzoNobel Cuts 2025 EBITDA Forecast to €1.48 Billion Q2 Net Profit Drops 30 Percent

ECHEMI 2025-08-03

AkzoNobel has revised its 2025 adjusted EBITDA outlook to over €1.48 billion, down from the previous estimate of €1.55 billion, citing ongoing market uncertainties. The company’s Q2 net profit fell sharply to €124 million, a 30% decrease from €177 million last year. Revenue slipped 6% to €2.63 billion, with a 5% hit from adverse currency fluctuations.

Sales volumes declined, especially in North America, but China’s decorative paints segment saw growth. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter dipped 2% to €393 million, missing analyst expectations, though the EBITDA margin rose to 15% from 14.4%. Operating profit dropped 21% to €214 million.

By segment, decorative paints revenue fell 5% to €1.08 billion, but adjusted EBITDA grew 8% to €192 million. However, operating profit in this category dropped 17% to €101 million. Performance coatings revenue fell 6% to €1.55 billion, with adjusted EBITDA dropping 10% to €213 million and operating profit down 18% to €150 million.

AkzoNobel continues to face macroeconomic headwinds, but improvements in profit margins signal some resilience in a challenging year.
