BASF catalyst creates a new way of chemical energy storage
The 195 Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change have signed and adopted the Paris Agreement, the main objective of which is to control the increase of global average temperature within 2 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial level, preferably within 1.5 degrees Celsius. Climate protection is the core component of BASF's new business strategy. The central goal of the strategy is to keep the total carbon dioxide emissions unchanged by 2030. The new energy storage technology developed by BASF partner BSE Engineering Company can convert excess power in the power grid into methanol economically and efficiently through small mobile devices and carbon dioxide. For example, some small power plants that use renewable energy and large industrial power plants that generate large amounts of carbon dioxide emissions, the excess electricity can sustainably generate hydrogen through electrolyzed water. The next step is to synthesize methanol with carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Basf catalyst will be used in methanol synthesis. These catalysts have been specially adjusted for this special process to ensure high efficiency of methanol production.
