Flint Group opens water-based inks and coatings and energy-curable ink plants in India

ECHEMI 2024-12-06

Flint Group has announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Savli, Vadodara, Gujarat, India. The state-of-the-art facility will focus on the production of water-based inks and coatings for the paper and board markets, as well as energy-curable inks for the label and narrow web sector.

The new 9,000 sq m facility marks a significant expansion of Flint Group’s manufacturing capabilities in India and is designed to meet the growing demand from the region’s paper and board packaging and narrow web industries. Conveniently located less than 10 kilometers from Flint Group’s flexible packaging manufacturing base in Ramdapura, the new facility complements an existing plant that produces solvent-based inks and operates a separate unit dedicated to non-toluene inks.

This development further strengthens Flint Group’s strong presence in India, which includes an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturing facility in Hosur specializing in the production of narrow web inks, and a compounding facility in Noida. Additionally, the company has warehouses in Kolkata, Mumbai and Hyderabad ensuring comprehensive coverage and services across the country.

The Vadodara facility will use standardized manufacturing processes to supply Flint Group’s optimized AQUACode range of water-based inks and coatings to paper and board converters. These inks are uniquely designed to support printers’ sustainability goals while maintaining high performance and consistency standards.

The facility will produce these products in phases and is expected to be fully operational, including in-house base manufacturing, by early Q2 2025. The new facility will also produce Flint Group’s award-winning EkoCure® Dual Cure range to meet the needs of the growing Indian label and narrow web printing market. Designed to be cured using conventional Hg UV lamps and low-energy UV LED lamps, the range simplifies ink inventory for printers transitioning to UV LED curing, allowing them to use one product on all their presses.

On November 26, 2024, Flint Group held a grand opening event to celebrate this milestone. The main leaders of Flint Group attended the opening ceremony of the new factory and answered customers' questions. Upal Roy, Managing Director, India, South Africa and Middle East, Flint Group, said: “Our new state-of-the-art facility demonstrates Flint Group’s commitment to the fast-growing Indian corrugated packaging and label printing market. ”

“By significantly enhancing our local manufacturing capabilities, we ensure we can meet the evolving needs of our customers and position Flint Group strategically to capitalize on future growth opportunities in this dynamic region. ”
