Corteva introduces a new biocide Verpixo® Adavelt® active (Florylpicoxamide)

 Corteva has launched Verpixo® Adavelt® active, a new highly effective biocide containing the new active ingredient Florylpicoxamid, in Australia.

Verpixo's unique structure is based on a natural compound found in soil bacteria, which can be used for ascomycetes disease control. Used to manage challenging crop diseases and help farmers achieve healthy and productive crops, the product is currently being tested extensively in Australia.

Farmers expressed that as growers, their biggest concern is resistance to existing chemicals and how to deal with the effects of that. The current trial of the product at Ashbern Farm in Australia has been very successful, recording a 14% increase in commercial fruit yield and a 12% to 15% reduction in Botrytis cinerea infection.

When resistance to existing chemicals is threatened, Verpixo is an excellent new partner for rotation and will enhance disease control and resilience of crops, Corteva said. Major diseases such as Botrytis cinerea and powdery mildew are biologically resistant, and Verpixo is a valuable solution that provides a new mode of action for these diseases, giving growers more flexibility to manage disease control programs throughout the growing season.

Florylpicoxamid is a second-generation fungicide developed by DowDuPont (now Corteva), based on the first-generation Fenpicoxamid (trade name Inatreq™). In November 2017, Florylpicoxamid received the ISO generic name.

Florylpicoxamid has a novel mechanism of action, high efficiency, broad spectrum, effective against a variety of diseases that seriously affect crop yield, has preventive effect, and has therapeutic activity when used in the early stage of disease infection. Under low dosage, Florylpicoxamid can show good disease prevention and control effect, reduce crop loss, improve agricultural product quality and reduce residue. Florylpicoxamid has no cross-resistance with other agents of mechanism of action and can be used for resistance management.

At present, products containing Florylpicoxamid have been registered in Australia, Canada and South Korea, and are marketed in Canada. In the future, Corteva will also actively promote
