Investing $200 million! Lubrizol continues to increase its presence in the Indian market
On the 30th, Lubrizol signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase a 700-acre plot of land in Aurangabad, India, where it plans to build a new manufacturing plant, which will initially be used to support the growing transportation and industrial fluid markets in the region.
The initial phase of the project is expected to invest approximately $200 million, which is the company's largest investment in India to date. Once completed, the plant will become Lubrizol's second largest manufacturing plant in the world and the largest in India. Construction will be carried out in phases over the next few years, leaving room for future expansion.
"Lubrizol has made significant investments in India for more than 50 years," said Flavio Kliger, president of Lubrizol Additives. "This new advanced manufacturing plant will enable us to enhance the local capacity and manufacturing level of our additives business, and will most likely support other Lubrizol businesses and regions in the future."
The establishment of the Aurangabad plant marks the company's latest effort to accelerate growth and enhance its localized capacity in India.
In 2023, Lubrizol announced a significant investment in the region in the form of a $150 million pledge. Supporting the company to build the world's largest CPVC resin plant in Vilayat, Gujarat, double the capacity of Lubrizol's plant in Dahej, Gujarat, open a grease laboratory in Navi Mumbai, and promote domestic job growth and innovation in India. In addition, Lubrizol opened its first Global Capability Center in Pune this year as a strategic hub for regional growth and to provide closer collaboration for customers and employees.
"Lubrizol understands the importance of a localized approach, from manufacturing in India to regional innovation to continued investment in local talent - we look forward to continuing to be a partner in customer progress and a catalyst for growth and breakthroughs," said Bhavana Bindra, Managing Director, India, Middle East and Africa, Lubrizol.
"This announcement highlights our commitment to our employees, partners and customers in the region," said Nitin Mengi, Vice President, Lubrizol India Additives, Chairman and Managing Director, Lubrizol India Private Limited. "India's growing transportation and industrial markets represent tremendous opportunities, and Lubrizol is excited to be part of the bright future of these industries."
In addition to meeting the needs of the Indian market, the plant will also provide export opportunities to neighboring countries and other Lubrizol plants. Production at the plant is expected to begin in 2028, Lubrizol's 100th anniversary year.
